TAMPA, Fla. — New court documents show a teenager throwing water on a person in a bathroom started a shooting near Armature Works that injured four people on Tuesday, April 9.
In the documents from the 13th Judicial Circuit Court, a witness told law enforcement a 13-year-old threw water onto an unnamed person while in the bathroom. It is unknown why the water was thrown in the first place. 10 Tampa Bay is not identifying the teenager due to their age.
After being confronted by the person for throwing the water, the teen said he was going to get his brother, later identified as 19-year-old Jaimartez Young.
Both Young and his brother were seen on surveillance video walking together to the west side of Stone's Throw Restaurant. According to documents, Young was seen carrying a firearm at the time.
Young reportedly started shooting at the person and his group at the restaurant. Video shows the person from the bathroom being handed a firearm with an extended magazine before he began firing back at the two teenagers.
The documents explain Young and his brother ran eastbound through the breezeway while continuing to fire back towards the restaurant. The unidentified person also continued firing back at them, as seen on surveillance footage.
On Wednesday, authorities responded to Jefferson High School after learning that was the last school Young attended.
A school resource officer reportedly reviewed the footage and helped officials identify Young. This resource officer told them they had multiple encounters with Young between 2019-2023.
Young turned himself in to authorities on Friday afternoon and is charged with premeditated first-degree attempted murder with a firearm, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and discharging a firearm in public.
Police first arrested a 17-year-old on Wednesday in connection to the shooting. He is charged with second-degree attempted murder with a firearm and felon in possession of a firearm. 10 Tampa Bay is also not identifying this suspect due to their age.
