FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — As Tropical Storm Debby churns in the Gulf of Mexico, parts of southwest Florida are facing strong winds, heavy rain and major flooding.
Photos and videos show several feet of water burying roads in Fort Myers Beach, threatening some homes and businesses.
Matt Devitt, the chief meteorologist at WINK News, reported 2-4 feet of storm surge in the area which left cars stranded on the road.
Other videos show several inches of water seeping into homes in Fort Myers Beach.
The parking lot of WINK News, located along the Caloosahatchee River in Fort Myers, completely flooded, according to a video shared on X.
Fort Myers Beach has been working to rebuild since Hurricane Ian caused catastrophic damage in 2022.
While parts of southwest Florida are facing outer rainbands of Tropical Storm Debby, it is only expected to strengthen as it continues moving along Florida's Gulf Coast. It is set to reach Category 1 hurricane strength before making landfall in the Big Bend region of the state late Sunday into early Monday morning.
