ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Duke Energy Florida is mobilizing 3,000 resources in response to potential impacts from Tropical Depression Four, according to the utility.

A mix of technicians, damage assessors and support personnel will be on standby to deal with potential power outages caused by heavy rainfall, strong winds and localized flooding, according to a news release.

The utility said its Midwest operations will further help with repairs and power restoration “as soon as weather conditions safely allow.”

These crews will be placed near areas that will likely be affected by the storm to help allow quick, safe and efficient service once the storm passes.

Duke Energy provides tips to safely weather the storm. This includes:

  • Ensuring an adequate supply of flashlights, batteries, bottled water, nonperishable foods, medicines, etc.
  • Considering alternate shelter arrangements as needed if you will be significantly impacted by a loss of power – especially families who have special medical needs or seniors.
  • Making sure contact information is up to date and communication preferences are noted in your account so you can receive proactive updates from Duke Energy on the status of power outages.
  • Staying away from power lines that have fallen or are sagging.
