TAMPA, Fla. — With Helene past Florida now, airports across the state are beginning to reopen. Here's what you need to know for air travel in the Tampa Bay region.
Tampa International Airport (TPA)
TPA has reopened Friday morning after airport operations staff determined there was no damage to facilities from the storm.
According to TPA, TSA security checkpoints, parking facilities, the SkyConnect train, the rental car center and other services have all reopened, and some shops and restaurants will reopen throughout the day.
TPA is expecting to be extremely crowded and is asking all passengers to arrive at least two hours before their departure is scheduled. The airport is expecting delays and cancellations and is also asking passengers to check with their airlines for flight status information.
Two other airports managed by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority, Tampa Executive and Plant City airports are also reopened.
Peter O. Knight Airport, however, is still restricted from flooding in Davis Islands and its reopening time has not been determined yet.
St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport (PIE)
PIE reopened at 10:30 a.m. Friday after closing after the last flight on Wednesday night.
The airport is asking passengers to contact its two airlines, Allegiant and Sun Country, directly for information on cancellations and delays.
Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ)
SRQ did not close during the storm and is still open. There are still likely delays and cancellations, so the airport is asking passengers to contact their airlines directly for the latest flight status.
