List: Airports in the Tampa Bay area announce closures ahead of Hurricane Helene

Tampa International Airport and St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport are set to close.

TAMPA, Fla. — As Hurricane Helene intensifies and moves closer to Florida's Gulf Coast, airports across the state are beginning to announce closures.

Below is a running list of airport closures to be aware of in the Tampa Bay area.

Tampa International Airport (TPA)

TPA will be closed beginning at 2 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, including the main terminal and airside. Commercial and cargo operations will also be suspended.

Other airports managed by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority — Peter O. Knight, Tampa Executive and Plant City Airports — will also close at 2 a.m. on Thursday.

Tampa International Airport says it anticipates to reopen Friday, Sept. 27 following a damage assessment.

St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport (PIE)

PIE will close after the last flight arrives on Wednesday, Sept. 25th, which is scheduled for 10:42 p.m. All Allegiant flights are cancelled for Thursday, Sept. 26.

The airport will reopen Friday, Sept. 27th.

Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ)

SRQ has not announced any closures and is currently open. However, the airport is urging all travelers to contact your airline directly for the latest flight status.
