TAMPA, Fla. — Thunderstorms, including the threat of possible tornadoes, are expected to move through the Tampa Bay area on Tuesday.
In preparation for the incoming severe weather, local school districts have announced some closures and cancellations.
Here's a running list of cancellations for Tampa Bay area classes and after-school activities. (Last updated 11:30 p.m. Monday)
Tuesday, Jan. 9 will be a half-day for all Citrus County schools. Dismissal times are as follows:
- Elementary - 12:35 p.m.
- Middle school - 11:20 a.m.
- High school - 11:40 a.m.
All after-school programs and extra-curricular activities are canceled for Tuesday as well. However, YMCA programs will continue to operate until 6 p.m. at all elementary schools.
Hernando County Schools will follow an early dismissal schedule (3 hours early) on Tuesday, Jan. 9. Here's a list of early dismissal times for all schools in the district.
Hillsborough County schools will be open for normal operations on Tuesday, Jan. 9. All after-school activities and sports will also continue as normal.
Families are encouraged to monitor the district's social media pages for updates.
All Pasco County schools and district offices will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 9. All school activities, including extracurricular events, are also canceled.
Wednesday, which was originally scheduled as an early release day, will now be a full day of instruction.
All Pinellas County schools will be open as scheduled on Tuesday, Jan. 9. All sports and after-school activities will also occur as normal.
All Polk County schools will be open for normal operations on Tuesday, Jan. 9. However, all after-school activities and sports are canceled.
Manatee County school leaders are continuing to monitor to forecast. For now, all Manatee County schools will be open for normal operations on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
Sarasota County schools will be open as scheduled on Tuesday, Jan. 9. However, all outdoor after-school activities will be canceled.
