Flood warnings issued for rivers across Tampa Bay after Milton

Most flood-related deaths happen in cars, according to the National Weather Service.

TAMPA, Fla. — After Hurricane Milton dumped more than a foot of rain on parts of the Tampa Bay area, local rivers are seeing historic levels of flooding.

In the days following the storm, flood warnings have been issued across the entire region, urging people to get to higher ground or evacuate the area before water moves into their homes and roadways.

Here are the flood warnings currently in place for rivers across Tampa Bay. You can monitor water levels in local rivers on the National Weather Service's flooding forecast map.

Withlacoochee River flooding

  • Major flooding is forecast at U.S. 41 in Dunnellon affecting Citrus and Levy counties
  • Major flooding is forecast in Croom affecting Sumter and Pasco counties
  • Major flooding is forecast at State Road 200 in Holder affecting Citrus County

*Evacuation orders are in place for those living near the Withlacoochee River. The river is expected to rise to 17.4 feet from 11.81 feet on Thursday.

Hillsborough River flooding

  • Major flooding is forecast at Morris Bridge affecting Temple Terrace
  • Major flooding is forecast near Hillsborough River State Park

*The Hillsborough River is expected to crest at 37.6 feet near Morris Bridge around 2 a.m. Saturday. It crested at 17.14 feet near Hillsborough River State Park around 12:15 a.m. Friday.

Alafia River flooding

  • Major flooding is forecast in Lithia and Riverview near U.S. 301

*The Alafia River is expected to crest at 24.9 feet by 8 p.m. Friday.

Anclote River flooding

  • Major flooding is forecast in Elfers at Little Road affecting Pasco County

*The Anclote River crested at 26.57 feet around 8:45 a.m. Friday.

Cypress Creek flooding

  • Major flooding is forecast at State Road 54 in Worthington Gardens affecting Pasco County

*Cypress Creek is expected to crest at 15 feet around 2 a.m. Monday. The following areas of Pasco County are under voluntary evacuation orders due to worsening flooding:

  • Elfers
  • Cypress Creek at Worthington Gardens
  • Thousand Oaks
  • Everyone in low-lying areas or areas prone to flooding

Little Manatee River flooding

  • Moderate flooding is forecast at U.S. 301 in Wimauma affecting Hillsborough County

*The Little Manatee River crested at 17.12 feet around 8 p.m. Thursday.

Myakka River flooding

  • Moderate flooding is forecast at Myakka River State Park affecting Sarasota County

*The Myakka River crested at 15.77 feet around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Peace River flooding

  • Moderate flooding is forecast in Bartow affecting Polk County
  • Moderate flooding is forecast in Zolfo Springs at State Road 17 affecting Hardee County
  • Moderate flooding is forecast in Arcadia at State Road 70 affecting DeSoto County

*The Peace River is expected to rise to 9.4 feet around 2 a.m. Thursday.

"Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads," the National Weather Service wrote. "Most flood deaths occur in vehicles."
