TAMPA, Fla. — The Humane Society of Tampa Bay has announced that it will be giving away free dog and cat food, along with other pet supplies, for those affected by Hurricane Helene.

In a news release, officials said the organization's Pet Pantry will be open daily, not just on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

"We want to ensure no one has to worry about feeding their pets during these difficult days," officials stated in a press release.

Organizers are also calling on community members to contribute to their donation drive for animal food and supplies to keep the Pet Pantry stocked for those in need. They say they're dealing with an overwhelming increase in stray animals at the shelter.

"Heartbreakingly, we’re also seeing more and more families forced to surrender their pets because of their profound losses," the humane society said.

Hurricane Helene is being blamed for at least 182 deaths and billions of dollars in destruction across the Southeast U.S.

More resources are available for those affected by the storm, including help with medical care, food and other needs.
