Hillsborough County Schools announces makeup days for Helene

TAMPA, Fla. — Hurricane Helene caused classes to be canceled at schools across Tampa Bay as it brought destructive wind, rain and storm surge. 

Every Tampa Bay-area district lost at least one day of school due to the storm. As recovery efforts begin, school officials have begun announcing when those days will be made up this semester.

Hillsborough County Schools

Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, will now be a full school day.

Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, will now be a school day. It will be the last day of the first semester and an early release day.

The following Mondays will change from early release days to full school days:

  • Oct. 21
  • Oct. 28
  • Nov. 4
  • Nov. 18
  • Dec. 2
  • Dec. 9
  • Dec. 16

"These adjustments ensure that our students receive the necessary instructional time before the end of the first semester, as required by state law," the school district wrote.

So far, only Hillsborough County Schools has announced hurricane makeup days. This list will be updated as other Tampa Bay-area school districts make announcements.
