TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Bay area is preparing to feel the impacts of Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine — which is set to become Hurricane Helene by midweek.
In preparation for the incoming tropical weather, local school districts have announced some closures and cancellations.
Here's a running list of cancellations for Tampa Bay area classes and after-school activities.
Citrus County Schools
Citrus County Schools is already scheduled to have an early dismissal for students on Wednesday, Sept. 25.
The district is continuing to monitor weather conditions to decide whether or not to cancel classes.
Hernando County Schools
Hernando County schools and district offices will close on Wednesday, Sept. 25, and Thursday, Sept. 26.
All after-school activities, including YMCA and Boys & Girls Club, will also be canceled on those days.
"After we know more about the storm's potential impact to our community, we will make a determination as to reopening schools on Friday," the school district wrote.
Highlands County Schools
Highlands County Schools is continuing to monitor weather developments in the Gulf of Mexico before making a decision.
Hillsborough County Schools
Hillsborough County Schools has not yet announced any cancellations.
Pasco County Schools
Pasco County schools will be in session on Tuesday, Sept. 24. The district is continuing to monitor weather conditions.
Pinellas County Schools
Pinellas County schools and offices will be open on Tuesday, Sept. 24 for normal operations and school-related activities.
District officials will announce a decision on closures by 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Polk County Schools
There are no planned closures for Polk County schools, though district officials are working with emergency management to continue monitoring weather conditions in the Gulf.
Manatee County Schools
Manatee County schools will be open for normal operations, including after-school activities and athletic events, on Tuesday, Sept. 24. The district is continuing to monitor weather conditions.
Sarasota County Schools
Sarasota County Schools has not yet announced any cancellations.
