Dipping into the 50s: Fall cold front to arrive in Tampa Bay

A cold front will drop temperatures to the 50s this week.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — It will finally soon feel like spooky season in Florida with sweater weather in full effect for the next couple of days.

A cold front will bring our first taste of fall starting Thursday morning with lows in the 50s. Some will be waking up to a cool 56 degrees!

A new continental polar airmass will bring much drier air into the region, not only lowering our temperatures, but lowering dew points as well. This will make it feel much less humid.

Behind our first fall cold front, winds from the north with high pressure will keep our weather sunny, dry, and breezy into next week.

As we continue to recover from Hurricanes Milton and Helene, there is still no power or air conditioning in some areas. This cold front is a silver lining. Plus, our normal high temperatures start to fall in October, with 86 degrees being the average temperature. That's a major improvement than the mid-90s!

On average, we typically feel our first 60 degree day on Oct. 21, our first 55 degree day on Halloween and the first 50 degree day (or lower) on Nov. 10.

This blast of cooler air is coming to the Tampa Bay area two weeks early to help us jumpstart our spooky season spirit. Most importantly, these fronts do not only make it cooler, but they also steer potential tropical systems away.
