PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — The Gandy Bridge is closed due to Hurricane Helene, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Authorities say the bridge closes if wave action makes travel unsafe.
The announcement comes after several other bridge closures on Thursday as Helene continues tracking toward the Big Bend region.
FHP troopers have shut down the Howard Frankland Bridge due to high winds and dangerous storm surge.
The Sunshine Skyway Bridge is also closed after winds reached 60 mph, according to a news release.
Drivers are requested to seek alternate routes and to not drive through flooded roadways. Officials are warning drivers to stay off Bay Area roadways.
