TAMPA, Fla. — Heads up, drivers — storms moving through the Tampa Bay area Tuesday are affecting roadways throughout the region.
The strong to severe thunderstorms are bringing a threat of damaging winds and isolated tornadoes. Most Tampa Bay area counties are under a tornado watch until 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Howard Frankland Bridge
Starting just before 12:30 p.m., strong winds over Tampa Bay began causing waves to crash onto the eastbound lanes of Interstate 275 along the Howard Frankland Bridge.
The Howard Frankland Bridge remains open to traffic as of 5 p.m.
Skyway Bridge
Florida transportation officials are also warning of high winds along the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. The bridge is open to traffic as of 5 p.m., but high-profile vehicles are recommended to find alternate routes.
There are reports of debris in the road in the southbound lanes of I-275 on the Manatee County side of the bridge.
I-275
Roads are wet along I-275 in Tampa. A crash in the northbound lanes of I-275 before Bird Street blocked one lane of traffic just before 5 p.m.
There is some light traffic along the northbound lanes of I-275 between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Sligh Avenue.
I-75
Delays are building along I-75 NB in the Ellenton area.
I-4
Roads are wet along I-4 WB in the Tampa area but traffic is continuing to move.
