Woman involved in crash with school bus in Sumter County dies from injuries, FHP says

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — A woman is dead after she crashed her car into a school bus carrying 14 students last Friday in Sumter County, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The 68-year-old woman from Bushnell reportedly died from her injuries at the hospital on the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 10. The crash happened Friday morning around 8:35 a.m., Sept. 6 on County Road 222.

FHP said the 68-year-old was reportedly driving east on CR-222 in a Ford Escort Wagon while the school bus driver, a 50-year-old woman from Wildwood, was traveling south on CR-223.

The woman reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the path of the bus before being hit. The 14 middle and high school students aboard the school bus at the time of the crash were all released to their parents.

The bus driver, a 50-year-old woman from Wildwood, was also sent to the hospital, FHP said. Her condition is unknown at this time.
