More than a dozen hurt in PortMiami crash involving 2 boats

The crash happened at Fisherman's Channel near Dodge Island, according to media outlets.

MIAMI — More than a dozen people are hurt after a crash between two boats near PortMiami, according to media outlets.

According to CBS Miami, authorities responded to a boat collision in Fisherman's Channel near Dodge Island at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11.

The report says over 30 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel, including two fireboats and an air rescue unit — alongside the City of Miami Fire, the Florida Wildlife Commission and the U.S. Coast Guard all responded to the scene.

CBS Miami reports the two watercraft involved were a tour boat and a recreation vessel, according to the Coast Guard.

"We usually don’t have accidents but yes, tour boats are always going through Fisherman's Cut and Government Cut," said Division Chief of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Horacio Rodriguez, in a statement to NBC6 South Florida.

Rodriguez told the outlet that 13 people were transported to a nearby hospital, with at least one needing to be airlifted. Other patients were evaluated and released on scene.

According to 7News Miami, the extent of the victims’ injuries is unclear, but no deaths were reported.

"There were other people inside the boat, it was a tour boat that was involved, from Bayside. And the patients who had no complaints were all taken back to Bayside," Rodriguez told the news outlet.

The news station also reports new video of the vessel captured on Monday morning showed the side broken in with its chairs out of place due to the collision. It was back at Bayside where FWC investigators were on the scene trying to determine what happened.

The investigation into the boat crash is ongoing.
