What's open in Tampa Bay area after Hurricane Milton?

TAMPA, Fla. — On Wednesday evening, Hurricane Milton made landfall as a Category 3 storm near Siesta Key on Florida's Gulf Coast.

In many areas Thursday morning, residents are still being urged to stay off the roads as clearing operations begin. For those looking to resupply after the storm's passing, here are some options:

Publix

Around 500 Publix stores across Florida are on modified hours due to the impacts of Milton. 

While hours vary depending on the location, several Publix stores in St. Petersburg and Tampa closed at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, with many appearing to have planned opening hours for Thursday, Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. and noon.

Hours are planned to be back to normal, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., by Friday.

Shoppers should check the interactive map on their website to see when their local store will be open.

Walmart

As of Thursday morning, 238 stores were listed as closed in Florida on this interactive map. However, some Walmarts and Sam's Clubs in the Tampa region indicated they were opening.

Those included:

  • Walmart Supercenter in Clearwater (23106 US Highway 19 N)
  • Walmart Supercenter in Tarpon Springs (7 Tarpon Springs Ave.)
  • Sam's Club in New Port Richey (4330 US Highway 19)
  • Walmart Supercenter in Sarasota (8320 Lockwood Ridge Road)
  • Walmart Supercenter in Avon Park (1041 US Highway 27 N)

Target

Target shuttered stores ahead of Milton. They were reopening at various hours on Thursday morning, Oct. 10, most at either 10:30 a.m. or noon -- though some at 8 a.m. See here for store locations and hours.

Open at 8 a.m.:

  • Tampa: 11627 W Hillsborough Ave.
  • Palm Harbor: 900 E Lake Rd.

All store hours are expected to go back to 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. for Friday.

Trader Joe's

Sprouts

All Sprout's locations in the storm's path are closed Wednesday. 

Hours are changed from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. for most stores Thursday, but they say to check back on their website here to see when exactly your local store will reopen. 

Wawa

A handful of Wawas are listed open Thursday morning. They include:

  • Tampa: 7408 E. Hillsborough Ave. (limited fuel)
  • Tampa: 2604 US Highway 301 (limited fuel)
  • New Port Richey: 8330 Ridge Road (limited fuel)
  • Holiday: 1929 HS Highway 19 (fuel court closed)
  • Odessa: 12048 SR-54 (fuel court closed)
  • Wesley Chappel: 28225 SR-54 (diesel only)
  • Brooksville: 20075 Cortez Blvd. (limited fuel)

Waffle House

Most Waffle House locations are open Thursday, Oct. 10 and operating on usual 24-hour schedules according to the company website.

However the following are closed in the region:

  • Treasure Island: 11185 Gulf Blvd.
  • Brooksville: 30481 Cortez Blvd.
