TAMPA, Fla. — The University of South Florida (USF) will reschedule homecoming activities as the community continues to recover from Hurricane Milton.

Homecoming Week was originally scheduled for Oct. 13-19. In addition to typical homecoming events, USF was slated to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its new football stadium on Oct. 18.

The long-awaited stadium has been a source of enthusiasm for current students and alumni, but Milton's aftermath has forced the university to postpone the ceremony.

“Our focus right now is on the safety of the USF community, and getting our campuses reopened and back to normal operations. We also recognize that our students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the university are experiencing many challenges as we recover from the recent hurricanes,” USF President Rhea Law said.

“By rescheduling our Homecoming and on-campus stadium groundbreaking ceremony to November, it will allow us to celebrate these important events at a more appropriate time," she added.

USF Homecoming will now take place Nov. 4-9, with the on-campus stadium groundbreaking ceremony being held on Friday, Nov. 8 at 3:30 p.m.

It's not the first time USF has rescheduled an event due to Hurricane Milton: Just last week, the university postponed a football game because of the impending storm.
