Sarasota Bradenton International Airport announces plans to reopen

SRQ lost the entire roof over Concourse B and all 13 aircraft loading gates during the storm.

SARASOTA, Fla. — After suffering extensive damage during Hurricane Milton, Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport has shared when it plans to welcome back travelers.

SRQ plans to reopen at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

The airport closed at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8 as Hurricane Milton was approaching Florida's Gulf Coast. Milton made landfall around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday as a Category 3 hurricane near Siesta Key — just about 10 miles from the airport.

On Friday, SRQ shared that it had suffered the loss of its entire roof over Concourse B, which covers the screening checkpoint, and all 13 aircraft loading gates.

Photos show fallen ceiling tiles and dirty water on the floor of the terminal outside of Starbucks along with mangled airplane hangars and debris on the tarmac.

"The SRQ team is hard at work, we thank you for your understanding," the airport's post reads.

Tampa International Airport reopened to the public at 6 a.m. Friday with the first flight going out around 8 a.m.

St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport plans to resume flights starting at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday.
