CLEARWATER, Fla. — Travelers hoping to utilize St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport will once again have the opportunity starting Saturday.

The airport was closed as a result of Hurricane Milton, which made landfall late Wednesday near Siesta Key as a Category 3 storm.

Airport officials announced Friday afternoon that the building would reopen and resume flights starting at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday. Allegiant is planning to bring aircraft back on Friday evening. Travelers should contact their airline directly for flight information.

Businesses in the terminal will also reopen on Saturday. Rental car operations were open on Friday.

If you do plan to travel through the airport, you are warned to allow extra time to arrive. Traffic signals are still down across the area, so you're asked to use caution when driving.

According to an airport spokesperson, the terminal suffered some leaks which are drying out and some wayfinding signs are reportedly down. Most other operations are set to resume, including airport fueling and the rescue and firefighting station. Other sections remain closed, including Sheltair Aviation and The Landings, a private hangar.

Travelers who have vehicles parked at the airport are allowed to retrieve them. Airport officials say there will be limited parking options but that the lots did not flood.
