Man accused of stabbing cousin 15 times in Davenport captured in Virginia

Douglas Kidd is accused of "violently" stabbing his cousin more than 15 times. It was a "miracle" she survived, police said.

DAVENPORT, Fla. — Days after allegedly stabbing his cousin in a "violent" attack before going on the run, a Polk County man was captured by law enforcement hundreds of miles and four states away, Davenport police said.

Douglas Kidd, 47, reportedly stabbed his cousin more than 15 times on April 11 and ran off before police arrived. The woman was able to get help from a neighbor before she was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

As of Wednesday morning, police said the woman, whose name has not been released, is still hospitalized.

"It's only a miracle that this lady is alive," Police Chief Steve Parker said last week during a news conference.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Kidd, charging him with attempted murder for the "horrific event."

Before his arrest, police believed Kidd was driving a black Chrysler 300 sedan with a handicapped Florida tag VI9WB. Parker said Kidd is known to hang out near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and has family in Georgia.

The chief said during the news conference he considered Kidd "dangerous."

In an updated release, police said officers with the Norfolk, Virginia, Police Department Fugitive Task Force found Kidd's car Tuesday afternoon in their jurisdiction.

After pulling the car over for a traffic stop, Kidd was arrested and taken into custody by Norfolk police for his alleged crimes in Davenport.

A motive for the attack is still unknown, police said.

"We are thankful for our law enforcement partners in Norfolk, Virginia, who worked diligently to help us take this violent individual off the streets. We continue to pray for the victim and her recovery," Parker said Wednesday in a statement.
