BRADENTON, Fla. — Braden River Middle School officials were on alert Monday morning after a reported threat was sent to the school, the School District of Manatee County said.

In an email to 10 Tampa Bay, the district said students and staff at the school "sheltered in place" while the Manatee County Sheriff's Office investigated. Braden River Elementary School, which is next door, also sheltered in place.

The shelter-in-place was in effect from 10:15 a.m. until around noon, but neither school was placed on lockdown, the email reads.

Increased law enforcement and district security were present at both campuses.

The specifics of the threat were not mentioned.

The incident follows several instances of school threats made throughout the Tampa Bay area since the start of the school year.

On Wednesday, a student was arrested for allegedly posting online threats against Wiregrass Ranch High School in Wesley Chapel.

Hillsborough County deputies responded around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 to Bloomingdale High School in Valrico for reports that a student made a threat on social media. They met with a 15-year-old girl who reportedly posted a photo on Snapchat with the caption, "ok imma shoot up the school."

Another arrest from HCSO happened the next day at Dowdell Middle Magnet School in Tampa. Deputies say a 13-year-old girl posted a note on her Instagram that said, "im the one whos gonna shoot up dowdell middle magnet."

Each student in all three cases was charged with written or electronic threat to conduct a mass shooting and one count of unlawful use of a two-way communications device.
