5-year-old girl dies days after near-drowning incident in Bradenton

The child was rushed to the hospital on Sunday in critical condition.

BRADENTON, Fla. — A 5-year-old girl who fought for her life after nearly drowning in a pool has died, police said in an updated news release.

According to police, the little girl was found by a family member around 4:40 p.m. Sunday in the pool at a home in the area of 5th Street East and 11th Avenue East.

Police at the time said they believed the child wandered out of the house and fell into the pool. The home's security system alerted the homeowner that a door opened, leading them to search for the girl, police said.

The family member and a neighbor reportedly performed CPR on the child until first responders arrived. They revived the girl, took her to Manatee Memorial Hospital and then airlifted her to Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg.
