BRADENTON, Fla. — A 5-year-old girl is in critical condition after a near-drowning left her unresponsive on Sunday, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
She was discovered at 4:40 p.m. by a family member in the pool at a home in the area of 25th Street East and 11th Avenue East.
Police believe the child wandered out of the house and fell into the pool. The home's security system alerted the homeowner that a door opened, leading them to search for the child, the department said in a statement.
The family member and a neighbor reportedly performed CPR on the child until first responders arrived. They revived the girl, took her to Manatee Memorial Hospital and then airlifted her to Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg.
Bradenton police say the near-drowning appears to be an accident.
