TAMPA, Fla. — Police say they found the body of a missing woman in a body of water Sunday morning in Tampa.
Miriam Nordlinger, 72, had been missing since Friday evening, her family said at the time. A Purple Alert was also issued for her on Saturday night.
Her body was found by divers with the Tampa Police Marine Patrol from the waters off Ballast Point, the police department said in a news release.
"The thoughts of the entire department are with the Nordlinger family at this time," Tampa Chief of Police Lee Bercaw said in a statement. "This is not the outcome we had hoped for. We appreciate the concern of the community and media who helped bring awareness to the search and ask that you continue to keep the family in your thoughts as well."
Before her body was found, Nordlinger was last seen walking away from her house near Bayshore Gardens and the Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club, according to a Facebook post by her daughter. The post also said Nordlinger left her wallet, keys and phone, and she left while her husband was asleep.
Her post has been widely shared on Facebook since she made it public. In the comments, one neighbor reported seeing Nordlinger on camera wearing an all-black track suit but said she left their street that same night.
Police say the 72-year-old was believed to have suffered from depression and needed care.
There is reportedly no evidence yet to suggest foul play was involved. Nordlinger's exact cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner's Office, authorities say.
