TAMPA, Fla. — Dashcam video captured the moment a "reckless" driver collided with another car, sending it rolling over the barrier of the Howard Frankland Bridge. Both drivers survived, troopers said.
Florida Highway Patrol sent a video of Wednesday evening's crash on Thursday morning and provided more information about what led to the crash.
Troopers said a 19-year-old Spring Hill man was going eastbound in his Ford Focus in the inside lane of Interstate 275 on the Howard Frankland Bridge. The man was driving "recklessly" and was speeding as he changed lanes in between cars. As he did this, other drivers had to "take evasive maneuvers" to avoid a crash.
The driver crosses several lanes of traffic in an attempt to get around other drivers before overtaking a 74-year-old Sarasota woman driving a Lexus RX350. The Spring Hill man reportedly tried to move to the outside shoulder to pass the Sarasota woman.
But he was trying to do this as he was passing a construction zone, meaning the concrete barrier had been moved to the roadside, effectively erasing the shoulder, troopers said. He had no space to pass the other car and collided with the Lexus driver, a news release detailed.
The impact caused the 74-year-old driver to hit a guardrail before overturning off the roadway and hitting a construction worker's parked car, the agency said. The 19-year-old drove off the roadway and hit another parked car before stopping, troopers added.

Both drivers were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, troopers said.
