BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — Two adults are dead following a late-night house fire in Brooksville, according to a news release.
Crews say this happened just before midnight on Tuesday in the area of Vfw Road and Corliss Road. Authorities received multiple 911 calls about people possibly inside the burning home.
Hernando County Fire Rescue and the City of Brooksville Fire Department responded to the scene together. Firefighters say they were unable to get inside the house at first due to the severity of the fire.
After crews reportedly began a defensive fire attack, the fire was brought under control within 30 minutes.
Once authorities were able to get inside, they discovered two adults near a doorway. After unsuccessful attempts to rescue them, they both died at the scene.
Footage from Sky10 Wednesday morning showed the roof of the house almost completely burned off. Various items in the yard, including a shed, were also seen looking damaged from the flames.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
