CITRUS COUNTY, Fla — The cold weather is upon us in parts of Florida, including the Tampa Bay region.
It's going to be staying that way until Thursday morning when temperatures get warm again.
That's why some counties are continuing to monitor the weather in case there's a need to open cold weather shelters.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Citrus County announced a shelter operated by the Family Resource Center will be open from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 7 a.m. Wednesday.
The shelter is located at the Nature Coast Community Church – 5113 S. Suncoast Blvd. – in Homosassa. The county says all transit buses will go to the shelter after their last stop.
In Sarasota County, a cold weather shelter will open in North Port at 100 Church, 14525 Tamiami Trail. It will be open starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday. People heading there are asked to bring their own sleeping materials.
"Breeze Route 9 operating on a normal schedule will arrive within about one block of 100 Church," county officials told 10 Tampa Bay. "Those in the North Port service area could also use the Breeze OnDemand service."
10 Tampa Bay has also reached out to Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas and Polk counties to see if any shelters will be open in those areas. All have said they keep a close eye on the weather and see if opening a shelter is necessary.
Areas north of the Tampa Bay region will be dropping into the 40s while mostly cloudy skies remain in the forecast for Tuesday, keeping high temperatures in the upper 50s to the mid-60s, depending on where people live in the area.
Tuesday morning was the coldest since March, and Wednesday morning is set to be the coldest since January.
It's certainly a time to take advantage of the cold weather over the next few days because temperatures will begin to get warm again heading into the weekend.
