SEFFNER, Fla. — A teen girl is facing charges after bringing a gun to school on Wednesday, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
A school resource deputy received a tip around 11:05 a.m. about a possible gun on the Armwood High School campus.
During an administrative search, a handgun was reportedly found in a 15-year-old student's book bag. The school district confirmed that the campus was placed on a "lock out" during this time.
The teen girl was arrested and charged with minor in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm on school property.
"It's heartbreaking and completely unacceptable that a student would ever bring a weapon onto school grounds. Actions like these create unnecessary fear and undermine the trust and safety we strive to build in our schools every day," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement.
Just two weeks ago, a 14-year-old boy was arrested for bringing a gun to Armwood High School. He was charged with possession of a firearm on school property and resisting an officer without violence.
