ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A man is facing a vehicular homicide charge after being arrested for a deadly St. Pete crash that killed a 20-year-old passenger back in July, authorities say.
In a Facebook post, St. Pete police say Georgia authorities arrested 26-year-old Herbert Jones on Sunday in Turner County, Georgia.
The department says Jones was arrested in the area for an unrelated offense, however, Georgia investigators discovered he had a warrant for his arrest in St. Pete for vehicular homicide.
Back in July, police determined Jones drove the car that crashed and killed Jeremiah Jones on Sunday, July 14. The crash happened at the intersection of 22nd Avenue South and 13th Street South. The two men are reportedly not related.
Herbert and Jeremiah were together in a Toyota Corolla when they reportedly crossed into the path of a 62-year-old Altamonte Springs man trying to turn his Ford Edge into the westbound lanes.
The two cars collided, causing the Toyota to roll several times before Jeremiah was ejected, officers said. He was taken to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where police say he died from his injuries the next day.
St. Pete PD says Herbert Jones remains in jail in Georgia, but will be extradited back to Pinellas County at a later date.
Investigators say more charges are being added for leaving the scene of an accident causing death and driving while license suspended or revoked causing death.
