ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The St. Petersburg Police Department is searching for the driver who killed his 20-year-old passenger in a car crash.
Investigators determined Herbert Jones, 26, was the driver of the car that crashed and killed Jeremiah Jones on Sunday, July 14, police said in a news release. The two men are reportedly not related.
The crash happened at the intersection of 22nd Avenue South and 13th Street South in St. Pete, police said. Herbert and Jeremiah were together in a Toyota Corolla when they reportedly crossed into the path of a 62-year-old Altamonte Springs man trying to turn his Ford Edge into the westbound lanes.
The two cars collided, causing the Toyota to roll several times before Jeremiah was ejected, officers said. He was taken to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where police say he died from his injuries the next day.
The department said that the 62-year-old stayed put and cooperated with police.
Anyone with information on Herbert's whereabouts can call the department at 727-893-7780. To remain anonymous, text "SPPD" and a tip to TIP411.
