WIMAUMA, Fla. — A 20-year-old Florida woman has been arrested more than a week after she allegedly took off after hitting and killing a 19-year-old bicyclist in Wimauma.
Jaquelin Velasquez has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a death, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
In a news release, the agency said the incident happened around 8:20 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16. on State Route 674 near 4th Street.
Velasquez was allegedly traveling in a red Dodge Charger with black rims, headed east down the highway. Meanwhile, the 19-year-old was traveling in the same direction.
West of 4th Street, the 20-year-old reportedly overtook and collided with the bicyclist. Troopers found parts from the front of the car at the scene of the crash, FHP said.
The 19-year-old died from his injuries at the hospital.
Troopers arrested Velasquez after receiving "an in-depth Crime Stopper tip," the agency said. She was arrested on Monday more than a week after the hit-and-run happened.
She was booked in the Hillsborough County Jail.
