FHP troopers searching for driver in hit-and-run that killed bicyclist in Hillsborough County

The suspect was driving a red Dodge Charger with black rims before hitting the bicyclist on State Route 674 in Wimauma, according to Florida Highway Patrol

FHP is searching for a driver who left a teen bicyclist dead after a hit-and-run Saturday night.

WIMAUMA, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers are searching for the driver in a hit-and-run that killed a 19-year-old bicyclist from Guatemala Saturday night in Wimauma.

In a news release, the agency said the incident happened around 8:20 p.m. while the driver, traveling in a red Dodge Charger with black rims, headed east down the highway. Meanwhile, the 19-year-old was traveling in the same direction.

West of 4th Street, the driver reportedly overtook and collided with the bicyclist. Troopers found parts from the front of the car after the driver took off from the crash, FHP said.

The 19-year-old died from his injuries at the hospital, according to the agency. Anyone with information on the driver's identity, whereabouts, or any other information regarding the crash can call FHP (*347) or Crime Stoppers at **TIPS.
