CLEARWATER, Fla. — A judge revoked the bond for a Clearwater man on two vehicular homicide charges related to a deadly crash in January because of new charges related to his actions after being released from jail.
At the time of the bond hearing in a Pinellas County courtroom Friday morning, he was already being held in jail without bond over an online threat he allegedly made while out on bond for the vehicular homicide charges.
On Wednesday, Clearwater police arrested 33-year-old Ilia Andoni after they said he made a death threat through a hotel reservation app.
According to the arrest affidavit, Andoni was communicating with someone through a "hotel based electronic app" on Feb. 18 about a reservation he had, when he stated, "Everyone pay one day, stay safe before I kill you."
The victim feared for her life and quickly took down her name from the online conversation, according to the report.
Investigators say the threat was sent from the same phone number Andoni used to book the hotel reservation. That phone number was also used to call 911 earlier that same day when police say Andoni asked to speak with officers. It's not clear whether the two events are related. The arrest affidavit is marked "yes" in the section titled "Indication of Mental Health Issues."
At this moment, Andoni is being held at the Pinellas County Jail without bond. He is also facing two counts of felony vehicular homicide over an incident that happened one month prior.
On Feb. 5, investigators arrested Andoni after they identified him as the driver who killed two people in a crash in Largo on Jan. 28.
Largo police say Andoni was going 92 mph in a 45-mph zone when he ran a red light and crashed into the side of another car at an intersection, killing 26-year-old Paulino Trejo-Mendoza and 22-year-old Ariando Sanchez-Monroy. Family and friends say the two were headed home from a night out when the crash happened around 5:15 a.m.
An arrest report says the traffic light was red for at least 10 seconds before Andoni drove through it.
