ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Two men were arrested after deputies say they were clocked driving 199 mph while street racing early Sunday morning in Orange County.
Luis Lozano-Figueroa, 20, was arrested for racing on a highway while Mario Paz-Gil, 19, was charged for knowingly riding as a passenger during street racing on a highway.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post the young men were caught going 199 mph on the Florida Turnpike.
At around 1:10 a.m., authorities received calls from people about drivers illegally street racing in the area of Lake Mary Jane Road and Moss Park Road, according to an arrest report retrieved by WKMG-TV.
Deputies reportedly determined Lozano-Fiueroa was the driver of a Chevrolet Camaro, while Paz-Hil and a 16-year-old boy were passengers.
The Camaro was seen going almost 200 mph in a posted 70 mph zone, WKMG-TV reports.
"These two young men quickly found out what happens when you engage in unlawful and dangerous street racing in Orange County," the sheriff's office wrote in the post.
Lozano-Figueroa and Paz-Gil were taken to the Osceola County Jail while the 16-year-old was released to his parent at the scene, deputies say.
The sheriff's office mentioned that last year, the agency made 157 arrests related to street racing.
"This isn't the first operation we've done, and it certainly won't be the last," the post reads. "We have ZERO TOLERANCE for street racing here in Orange County."
The Tampa Bay area is also no stranger to people being put behind bars for street racing.
In November of 2023, a 20-year-old and a 19-year-old were arrested after they were seen racing over the Gandy Bridge.
While driving, a trooper saw two cars, a green Dodge Charger and a black Infinity, allegedly going the same speed, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. After a moment, both cars started to speed up rapidly.
The trooper said the cars did this "in a competitive attempt to outdistance each other."
Both drivers, 20-year-old Daniel Cabrera and 19-year-old Timothy Devine, were arrested and booked for racing on a highway. They were placed under a $150 bond which they both paid.
