Florida senior's wakeboarding graduation photo shoot goes viral

He's got the cap and gown...and a wakeboard?

SOPCHOPPY, Fla. — One Florida high school senior isn't letting COVID-19 make his graduation forgettable.

Lyric Oaks is a senior at Wakulla High School in Sopchoppy and after coronavirus ended his school year early and canceled his graduation, he and his parents decided to go all out on his senior photos.

"They pitched the idea to me. . . one I truly never expected or had seen before! He loves to wake surf. . . but while in a cap and gown?" Photographer Elizabeth Birdwell said. "I loved the idea but I have to admit I was skeptical at first. . . could it actually be done? Apparently yes because the behind the scenes video footage and the pictures don’t lie. He nailed it and he nailed it big."

The photoshoot did not disappoint. In a perfect snapshot of timing and skill, Lyric posed for a one-in-a-million shot atop his wakeboard, and Birdwell captured it.

Birdwell says she's had a lot of people ask her if the photoshopped, but she has the video to back it up (see above).
