CLEARWATER, Fla. — A teen's death is fueling his family's pain after police say his life was suddenly taken by his own friend.
Jacques Ford was killed last Tuesday after being shot in an apartment at a complex in the area of Engman Street and Hoit Avenue
"I turn to wake up every day he's not there. I still go in his room and he's not there. Knowing that he was alone, that's what hurts the most," said his mother, Melisha Ford, Monday night.
She's speaking out for the first time since the shooting only to 10 Tampa Bay's Angelina Salcedo saying she wants everyone responsible for his death to be held accountable. She's doing her best to cope after the loss of her loving 16-year-old son.
"He was overprotective over us. He liked to make music and play his Xbox. I've been listening to his songs every day," Ford said.
Clearwater Police say Ques was shot by another teen in the apartment complex he lived in while "play fighting" on Jan. 30.
"I had like 6 missed phone calls and my daughters came knocking at my door," Ford said through tears.
Investigators say a 16-year-old friend of Ques picked up a gun and it fired during a physical exchange. He's now charged with manslaughter and violation of probation.
"I don't think it was no play fight. A play fight doesn't turn into you picking up a gun and shooting somebody," Ford said.
That's why Melisha says the charges he's facing aren't enough knowing he could face a few years behind bars, but her son can never come back.
"At his age, he could be home within 5-7 years, but my son is gone forever," Ford said.
When asked if she wanted to see further charges, Ford said without a doubt.
"Yes! I want more brought on him, his mother and whoever else was in the house. Everyone there played a part in it," Ford said.
Clearwater Police continue investigating this shooting and say more charges could come. On Monday afternoon, they arrested Laquanda Lancaster for tampering with a witness. We're working to learn more about why she was arrested.
Right now, Melisha and her family are planning Ques' funeral and are fundraising to give him the proper send-off. If you'd like to help them, you can visit their GoFundMe here.
