TAMPA, Fla. — Tropical Storm Sara continues to crawl along the Gulf of Honduras, slowly approaching Belize as of Saturday evening.
On the current forecast track, Sara will continue moving west at 5 mph and is expected to move onshore over Belize during the day on Sunday.
Maximum sustained winds are weaker at 45 mph with occasional higher gusts. Only minor fluctuations in intensity are expected before landfall in Belize on Sunday, with weakening expected to take place soon after.
Tropical storm force winds currently extend outward up to 105 miles from the center.
A tropical storm warning is in effect for the northern coast of Honduras from Punta Castilla westward to the Honduras-Guatemala border as well as the Bay Islands of Honduras, and the coast of Belize and Guatemala.
Here at home in the Tampa Bay area, Sara will weaken by the time it reaches Florida's west coast, combining with an approaching cold front and generally bringing rain and breezy to gusty winds by Wednesday.
The threats remain low for us here at home. However, local waterways could be prone to flooding with the combination of high tide and recent high water levels from previous storms this season.
