Tropical Storm Gordon forms in the Atlantic, NHC confirms

At this time, no coastal watches or warnings are in effect, but forecasters say the storm is moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Tropical Storm Gordon has formed, the National Hurricane Center confirmed Friday afternoon.

At this time, no coastal watches or warnings are in effect, but forecasters say the storm is moving toward the west-northwest near 9 mph and is expected to move more to the west this weekend and Monday, according to NHC.

Maximum sustained winds for Tropical Storm Gordon have increased to 45 miles per hour with higher gusts, NHC said. A weakening trend for the storm is reportedly expected to begin this Saturday.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 70 miles for Gordon while its estimated minimum central pressure sits at 29.65 inches, according to NHC.

The last named hurricane this season was Francine, which left tens of thousands without power earlier this week after it made landfall in Louisiana.
