ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Tropical Depression Twenty-One has formed just in the nick of time as it's only hours away from landfall.
The system is currently located just east of Nicaragua in the Caribbean Sea and is forecast to move over land early Tuesday, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Earlier in the day, the disturbance developed what forecasters called a "well-defined center," meaning it was well on its way to strengthening. But it'll soon run out of warm water and once over land, the depression will weaken.
Tropical Depression Twenty-One will still be a heavy rainmaker for Nicaragua and the greater Central American region, however.
If it happens to reach tropical storm strength, the next name on the list is Vince.
Even though the U.S. will not see impacts from this system, there are signs and signals that the tropics are still alive and active. This serves as a great reminder we still have plenty of time left in hurricane season, which runs through the end of November.
