Tropical Depression Four forms in the Atlantic

It is forecast to become the season's next tropical storm — Cindy — in the coming days.

TAMPA, Fla. — On the heels of Tropical Storm Bret, another tropical depression has formed off the African coast, something that is unusual this early in the hurricane season.

Tropical Depression Four developed Thursday morning in the Atlantic, according to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center.

The tropical depression has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph and is far away from land right now — about 1,270 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. It's moving west-northwest at 15 mph.

Over the next few days, Tropical Depression Four is expected to continue moving west before turning northwest over the next few days. Currently, Four is forecast to remain east of the northern Leeward Islands through the weekend.

The NHC says Tropical Depression Four is expected to get stronger and over the next day or so is forecast to become a tropical storm. The next name on the list is Cindy.
