Indicative of peak hurricane season, the tropics continue to heat up and remain busy. The National Hurricane Center is currently tracking three systems in the Atlantic.
Tropical Depression Eight formed Sunday night in the Atlantic and has strengthened.
According to the latest advisory from the NHC, the system is currently about 120 miles east-southeast of Bermuda and has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph. It is moving south around 9 mph.
The storm is expected to slowly turn clockwise toward the southwest and west over the next couple of days. The center of the depression is forecast to move east and south of Bermuda during the next few days.
The NHC expects the system to slowly strengthen and says Tropical Depression Eight is forecast to become a tropical storm sometime Monday.
If it does become a tropical storm, it will be named Henri. And, it would become the eighth named storm of the 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
Tropical Depression Eight isn't the only system the NHC is tracking.
Tropical Storm Fred continues its trek Monday toward the Florida Panhandle, where it is forecast to bring storm surge and heavy rainfall Monday to parts of the Panhandle. Read more about Fred's track here.
Tropical Depression Grace was downgraded from a tropical storm Sunday afternoon but continues to bring heavy rainfall to Puerto Rico as it makes its way toward the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The storm is not currently forecast to impact Florida. Read more about Grace here.
