Forecasters tracking 3 disturbances in the Atlantic, including a tropical depression

It's too early still to tell if Florida could see any impacts from the storms.

TAMPA, Fla. — The National Hurricane Center is monitoring three areas of disturbed weather in the Atlantic.

One of the disturbances, currently named Invest 97-L, is likely to develop into a tropical depression or tropical storm over the next few days.

The second disturbance, Invest 98-L, beat the first to the punch by becoming Tropical Depression 13. It formed Wednesday evening in the central Atlantic Ocean and is located east of the Lesser Antilles.

Invest 97-L is also likely to develop into a tropical depression or tropical storm. The disturbance is moving through the Caribbean Sea. The NHC gives this disturbance a 90-percent chance of further development over the next two days and a 90-percent chance within the next five days.

The third area is a possible system with a 40-percent chance of development over the next five days. It is located over Guinea, Africa.

The next names to be used from the 2020 Atlantic hurricane list are Laura and Marco. It's too early still to tell if Florida could see any impacts from the storms.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) updated its 2020 hurricane season forecast earlier this month, indicating one of the most active seasonal forecasts that NOAA has produced in its 22-year history of hurricane outlooks.

The updated forecast calls for 19-25 named storms, 7-11 hurricanes and 3-6 major hurricanes. This includes the 11 storms and two hurricanes we’ve already seen.
