ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The tornado watch in effect for all of the Tampa Bay area has been canceled. According to the National Weather Service, the widespread threat of quick spin-ups from Tropical Storm Debby's rainbands has ended.

A tornado watch is in effect until 4 p.m. Monday for much of Florida's west coast, including the Tampa Bay area, because of the potential for quick spin-ups from Hurricane Debby.

According to the Storm Prediction Center, the region should prepare for the chance of a few tornadoes into the mid-afternoon hours.

Forecasters said rainbands associated with Hurricane Debby will continue to pose a risk of embedded supercell thunderstorms and tornadoes. The environment remains favorable for tornadoes, especially north of Tampa Bay as the day goes on.

A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and just close to the watch area, while a warning means people should take cover immediately.
