Teddy moves across open Atlantic as powerful CAT 4 hurricane

It’s the 8th hurricane of the season, 2nd major hurricane of the season.

TAMPA, Fla — Hurricane Teddy’s winds are now an incredible 140 mph.

The powerful storm became a Category 4 hurricane Thursday afternoon moving northwest over the open Atlantic at 12 mph. At 11 p.m., the storm was about 575 miles east-northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands.

Teddy may strengthen more tonight but is expected to weaken some this weekend.

While the storm is in the open Atlantic, there is some chance Teddy could strike Bermuda and then northern New England toward the middle of next week.
