Hurricane Beryl brings heavy winds, surges and damage to Caribbean

Video and pictures show the devastation the record-breaking hurricane caused.

BARBADOS, — As Hurricane Beryl makes its way through the Atlantic, it has broken records and been characterized as "potentially catastrophic," according to National Hurricane Center forecasters.

It's the first named hurricane of the season and the earliest a Category 5 storm has ever formed in the Atlantic. It was also the earliest a Category 4 storm ever formed with the previous record being Hurricane Dennis on July 8, 2005.

It made landfall on Grenada's Carriacou island as a Category 4 storm, killing at least one person, according to Grenada's Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell. The storm caused surges and wind damage all across the Caribbean.

It's now on track to hit Jamaica on Wednesday and the Cayman Islands on Wednesday night. You can view updates here
