TAMPA, Fla. — Tropical Storm Elsa made its way past the Tampa Bay area Tuesday evening.
A hurricane warning was issued for parts of the Tampa Bay area amid concern of hurricane conditions in the area. The National Hurricane Center canceled all warnings south of the Pasco-Hernando County line. The hurricane warning along the west coast of Florida has been changed into a tropical storm warning.
The Tampa Bay area is still bracing for heavy rain, gusty winds and 1-3 feet of storm surge in Elsa's aftermath. However, conditions will gradually improve through Wednesday afternoon from the south of Tampa Bay to the north.
Elsa was the first hurricane of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season. It first reached hurricane strength on July 2 before losing strength and being downgraded to a tropical storm.
