Tropical Depression Four forms in Atlantic

The fourth tropical depression of the Atlantic Hurricane Season has formed more than 1,000 miles east of the Windward Islands, according to theNational Hurricane Center.

The fourth tropical depression of the Atlantic Hurricane Season has formed more than 1,000 miles east of the Windward Islands, according to theNational Hurricane Center.

Tropical Depression Four is moving toward the west near 13 mph. A turn toward the west-northwest is expected later Tuesday or Wednesday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph with higher gusts. The system is expected to strengthen, becoming Tropical Storm Danny later Tuesday.

No warnings have been issued at this time.

The system will face some obstacles, says Bob Henson, writing on the Weather Underground blog. Wind shear, El Nino and a huge area of dry air and Saharan dust will weaken the storm as it approaches the Leeward and Windward Islands by the weekend.
