TAMPA, Fla. — A line of strong to severe thunderstorms has moved out of the immediate Tampa Bay area, and the tornado watch issued for Citrus and Hernando counties has been canceled.

The previous story is below.

A second day of scattered storms that have the potential to turn severe is in store for the Tampa Bay area.

A tornado watch is in effect until 1 p.m. Tuesday for Citrus and Hernando counties. Most of the Tampa Bay area is under a "slight" risk for severe weather, or a level two out of five, from the Storm Prediction Center. Our more southern counties are under a level one "marginal" risk.

The primary risks for Tuesday include gusty winds, an isolated tornado and hail.

According to the National Weather Service, rounds of thunderstorms are expected over the next few days coupled with hot and humid conditions.

Starting later Tuesday morning into early afternoon, a line of storms will move across north Florida and northeastern Gulf waters into the Nature Coast and parts of the Tampa Bay area, mainly north of Interstate 4.

A second round of thunderstorms is expected to move east into the Nature Coast and Tampa Bay area. Again, most of the storm activity will happen north of I-4.

On May 10, the Tallahassee area saw two EF-2 tornadoes rip through the area, causing widespread devastation and killing one person.

This rainy and stormy pattern is just a taste of what's to come — Florida's rainy season officially starts on May 15. Additionally, we're just a few weeks away from the official start of hurricane season.
