PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla — An awning torn off a pizza shop. Debris flying by an apartment complex.
Social media photos and videos are offering Tuesday's first insights into the damage left behind by severe storms that made their way across the Tampa Bay region. There are reports of downed trees and power outages.
Meteorologist Natalie Ferrari was on live television when a tornado warning was issued, and later canceled, for Pinellas County. She provided live severe weather updates, urging people around the Bay region to seek shelter.
While the warning is over, the National Weather Service is beginning to review social media videos showing debris and circulation. So far, the NWS has confirmed a brief, weak tornado in the Trinity area. In addition, another brief, weak tornado was spotted near Town 'N Country.
Bobby Rohe filmed video of rotation in the Seven Springs/New Port Richey area.
"Scary and fascinating stuff! Most importantly, we are okay. Hope everyone is okay!" Rohe told Instagram followers.
High school student and self-described "weather nerd" Nicholas Krasznavolgyi documented images showing damage to Olivia's Subs & Pizza on Seven Springs Boulevard in the New Port Richey/Trinity area.
Around 6:20 p.m., Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to reports of damage in the Bay Crest neighborhood – northwest of Tampa International Airport. The worst of the damage was to a home on Stillbrook Avenue, though no injuries were reported.
Several homes lost some of their roof trim in the Bay Crest neighborhood, 10 Tampa Bay has learned. Storm winds sent one trampoline flying into the air, plopping it down a block away. Part of the neighborhood went without power as TECO was dispatched to the scene.
Meanwhile, in Town 'N Country, Ryan Meier watched debris go flying past as the NWS confirmed a weak tornado in the area.
Lizette Jara in Sarasota County captured a dark funnel cloud swirling in the sky around 6:10 p.m. The NWS said there were no indications that this funnel cloud ever touched the ground though.
