Don't be deceived by the morning sunshine because by this afternoon an eruption of showers and storms will roll through the Tampa Bay area.
Under plenty of sunshine, temperatures through the first half of the day will quickly rise into the low-middle 90s. The combination of the heat and humidity will make those temperatures feel more like 103-105 degrees.
Meanwhile, an upper-level low-pressure system will be moving to the northwest across the state, originating from the northern Bahamas Monday morning. This low-pressure system comes with a pocket of cool air high up in the atmosphere which will enhance the lift in the typical summertime thunderstorms and cause them to become a little more robust than normal.
The combination of the high heat and humidity in place ahead of these storms and this upper-level low-pressure system will result in the threat for strong to severe storms through the afternoon into this evening. The primary threat associated with these storms will be heavy rain, gusty winds, microbursts, and even some hail.
While tornadoes or waterspouts are not expected, they can't be completely ruled out of some of the stronger storms that move across the area.
Through lunchtime, there will only be a small chance for a few isolated showers.
Between 3-5 this afternoon, more widespread showers and storms will develop. The storms will begin to develop over southeastern and central Florida and then push to the northwest into the Tampa Bay area. The best chance of storms in the Bay area will be from the evening showers to just after sunset.
After sunset, the showers and storms will dissipate as they push west out over the Gulf of Mexico. Skies will continue to gradually clear overnight and give way to mostly clear conditions early Tuesday morning.
